A dirty winch performs poorly and can actually be a risk to your crew. We just pulled apart these Lewmar self-tailing winches and found a lot of dirt and damage inside. Even a winch that looks pretty good on the outside can accumulate internal crud that needs to be addressed. We recommend regular maintenance.
